Abdominal Wall Defect
Soaked warm gauze put over the herniated bowel to prevent heat and fluid loss
A large plastic bag is applied over the whole body of the patient to keep warm if an incubator is not available

An incubator is suitable during transportation

Only skin closure is one of the surgical managements

Relaxing incision may be needed in skin closure to cover the herniated internal organs

Mercurochrome painting over the sac is useful in large unruptured omphalocele that could not be definitely treated by surgical means
The sac is dry to allow cicatrization and the skin grows over the sac

Povidone-Iodine is also used for local painting instead of Mercurochrome to avoid Mercury intoxication
Cicatrization and epithelialization occur 2-3 weeks after Povidone-Iodine painting
"Only skin closure" and "Local antiseptic painting" leaves a ventral hernia to be corrected when the patient grows up.
