Lipid Cell Variant

These tumors usually show areas of typical transitional cell carcinoma but there are also areas, large or small, in which the cells have the morphology of signet ring lipoblasts. This is an ill-defined and uncommon variant. It has been reported as carcinoma with liposarcoma, but it is not presently clear if they should be regarded as carcinosarcomas [49].

Figure 1: This is a transitional cell carcinoma, but most of the tumor consists of vacuolated cells identical to signet ring lipoblasts.
Figure 2: This is another case with the same diagnosis. In the center is a multivacuolated lipoblast (arrow). The other vacuolated cells resemble signet ring lipoblasts.
