Tuberculous infection of lymph node
The lymph node is largely replaced by multiple large and small caseating granulomas ( fig.1, fig.2).
The granulomas in this case contain central area of caseous necrosis which is surrounded by epithelioid histiocytes ( fig.3 arrow), lympho-plasma cells fibroblasts and occasional multinucleated giant cells of foreign body ( not shown) and Langhan's type ( fig.4 arrow head).
Many organism can generate granulomatous inflammation, therefore the identification of acidfast bacilli is needed to confirmed the tubercle bacilli ( fig.5).
