What is prenatal diagnosis in Down syndrome?

        Prenatal diagnosis for Down syndrome are chorionic villus sampling (CVS), amniocentesis, and percutaneous umbilical blood sampling (PUBS).
 
        Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a procedure which tissue is extracted from the placenta to examine the fetus's chromosomes.
        CVS is usually performed between 8-12 weeks of gestation.
        Amniocentesis is a procedure which amniotic fluid is drawn to examine the fetus's chromosomes.
        Amniocentesis is usually performed between 16-20 weeks of gestation.
        Percutaneous umbilical blood sampling (PUBS) is a procedure which blood from umbilical vein is drawn to examine the fetus's chromosomes.
        PUBS is usually performed when gestation age is over 24 weeks.
