Preface.
"Pediatric surgery" is one of the interesting subspecialties. But there is a limitation of the time given for the medical students, general surgical trainees and other subspecialty surgical trainees to study more in this subspecialty. Some of the abnormalities encountered by the pediatric surgeon can be detected and diagnosed from their appearance and/or simple investigations. Most of the pictures in this Atlas were collected from the author's experience. A few pictures were taken of the patients under the care of the author's teachers and colleagues. Their names should be acknowledged, with gratitude :
Professor Lewis Spitz. - London Medical College and
The Hospital for sick children.
Great Ormond Street, (HSC, GOS). London
Associate Prof. Bidhya Chandrakamol. - Chulalongkorn University Hospital (CU)
Mr.Edward M. Kiely - HSC, GOS (retroperitoneal cystic hygroma)
Assistant Prof. Dusit Viravaidhya -CU. (Mother and daughter with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome)
The author also would like to thank Dr. Graeme Bennett for his kind advice and assistance in reviewing the manuscript.

The pictures in "Chula Atlas of Pediatric Surgery" are arranged in groups according to their presenting problems. Some diseases may be grouped in different categories but will be referred to if necessary. In each group/problem, one can learn by looking through the picture guide or by the management guideline scheme.

I hope that this Atlas can be used as self-directed learning for those who are interested and used as reference for continuing medical education for those who face the problems. I would very much appreciate if anyone who accesses the "Chula Atlas of Pediatric Surgery" could send their comments or any questions to me by post, Fax or E-mail at the following address :
