High Grade Lymphomas
Small non-cleaved cell, medium magnification. Note the "starry sky" pattern formed by the light-colored histiocytes against the dark lymphoma cells. Although not well seen here, the non-cleaved cells often have a "tiled" appearance because a moderate amount of basophilic cytoplasm keeps them slightly apart
Small non-cleaved cell, high magnification. Most nuclei have 1 or 2 prominent nucleoli. Note the "tingible body" macrophage at the left with debris in its cytoplasm.
Lymphoblastic lymphoma, medium magnification. Although there is a suggestion of a starry sky pattern, it is less prominent than in small non-cleaved cell lymphoma.
Lymphoblastic lymphoma, high magnification. The chromatin is relatively fine, the nucleoli inconspicuous.
