Cholesteatoma (Keratoma) Microscopic low power displays many squamous epithelial cells and keratinous strands within an amorphous acidophilic material.
Cholesteatoma ( a misnomer) is a non-neoplastic lesion and represents an accumulation of keratinizing stratified squamous epithelium along with desquamated keratin debris in the tympanic cavity and mastoid region. Schuknecht applied the term 'Keratoma' which is more appropriate to this lesion.
