of toxoid vaccines to counter potential aerosol attacks on military

were as follows: performed necropsies and histopathological examinations
on military-owned animals, laboratory animals, and other animal
specimens submitted by military and civilian pathologists for
consultation; researched professional literature and presents
written and oral presentations at weekly pathology seminars; prepared
and published case reports in scientific journals; served as the
Department Library Officer; served as a prosector at the National
Zoological Park; attended short courses and academic courses as
required by the training officer; prepared for the American College
of Veterinary Pathology certifying examination.
Chief, Department of Diagnostic Pathology, 1994-1997. Directed
and managed scientific and fiscal operations of a lead Army Medical
Department vaccine development laboratory, to include development
of advanced approaches to biological defense against a major biological
warfare agent. Performed administrative functions as Contracting
Officer's Representative for a $650K collaborative research program
to include the mapping of essential molecular toxin domains, peptide
vaccine development and efficacy testing of these innovative vaccines
in animal models. Supervised the professional development of 8
personnel. Performed duties as Staff Pathologist.
Chief, Department of Comparative Pathology, 1997-1999. Performed
administrative functions to manage and directed a department with
3 branches providing histopathology, bacteriology, necropsy and
clinical pathology support to the Army's largest biomedical research
institute and the Department of Defense's lead agency of infectious
disease research. Served as Team Leader of a multi-disciplined
group of bioengineers, physicians, statisticians, biochemists,
toxinologists, immunologists, bacteriologists, veterinarians and
behavioral psychologists to accomplish collaborative inter-institutional
research protocols designed to protect soldiers against a major
biological threat agent. Supervised the duties of pathologists,
biologists, chemists, technicians and contractors. Developed,
executed and directed collaborative clinical and anatomic pathological
support for the institute's research protocols. Served as member
of institute's Editorial Board.

Serves as both Chief, Research Branch, Department of Veterinary
Pathology, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Lieutenant Colonel,
U.S. Army, and Director of the Registry of Toxicologic Pathology
for Animals (RTPA), to include management of the RTPA's Web conferences.
Also a member of the teaching staff of AFIP's Veterinary Pathology
Residency program and Institute Institutional Animal Care and
Use Committee.
